1 Corinthians $16 The cosmopolitan city of Corinth was the site of one of Paul’s greatest evangelistic successes. Yet despite Paul’s having founded the church there, it was full of contention and strife. Dissension ran the gamut from questions about leadership to incest. Some believers were taking fellow Christians to court. There were questions about marriage, celibacy, food offered to idols, public worship and spiritual gifts. In response Paul offered to them, and to us, some of his most profound thinking on the body of Christ, love and the resurrection. Leon Morris, with his characteristic clarity and pastoral heart, sets the issues before us and offers perspectives on the letter’s perennial relevance. The original, unrevised text of this volume has been completely retypeset and printed in a larger, more attractive format with the new cover design for the series. The Tyndale New Testament Commentaries have long been a trusted resource for Bible study. Written by some of the world’s most distinguished evangelical scholars, these twenty volumes offer clear, reliable and relevant explanations of every book in the New Testament. These Tyndale volumes are designed to help readers understand what the Bible actually says and what it means. The introduction to each volume gives a concise but thorough description of the authorship, date and historical background of the biblical book under consideration. The commentary itself examines the text section by section, drawing out its main themes. It also comments on individual verses and deals with problems of interpretation. The aim throughout is to get at the true meaning of the Bible and to make its message plain to readers today. |

100 Minute Bible $4.99 The Bible must be the most popular yet least-read book in the world! It looks so complex, so long, and in a language from a previous era. And yet it’s the greatest story ever told, the ultimate love story, the biography of God himself. The 100-Minute Bible is designed for people who may not know very much about the Christian faith but want to know why the Bible is sopopular with two billion people around the world. The 100-Minute Bible is also for Christians who want to revisit the big picture. Read this and see the whole sweep of God’s loving purpose for his world and all its people. So many people know about the Bible but so few have read it at all, let alone cover to distant cover. This version of the Bible has been written to bridge that gap. Most people will be able to read it in 100 minutes, making it the idealread for that upcoming journey, or for an enjoyable reading experience of enlightenment. The 100-Minute Bible enables people who are not familiar with the’classic’ Bible to understand the basic story of the book that is the basis of the Christian faith. It is intended for people who might have an interest in Christianity but not the time (nor tenacity!) to read the 700,000+ words of the whole Bible. 1910 $8.88 The Vintage Photo Album Series(TM) of books is quite unique. Most photo books about historical places provide photos taken over many years, some old, some more recent, and most photos having been published before. Each book in the Vintage Photo Album Series(TM) instead explores an extraordinary amateur vintage photo album of photos generally from ONE year, of a given location, trip or subject, and always having never been published before. Every vintage photo album tells its own unique story; the older the photo album the more challenging it is to uncover the details of its story. Almena was only 22, living in the Bloomingdale neighborhood of Washington, DC, when she photographed her exploits during the summer of 1910, including a ride on Abraham Lincoln’s steamer River Queen to COLONIAL BEACH; a visit to the OLD SOLDIER’S HOME; POTOMAC PARK; GLEN ECHO; HARPERS FERRY and the original HILLTOP HOUSE; JEFFERSON ROCK; GREAT FALLS; GERMANTOWN; RIVERSIDE; ANTIETAM BATTLEFIELD; and EFTON HILLS; and a ride on the steamer Charles Macalester to MARSHALL HALL. We also discover why so many Washingtonians have family in Maine – it’s because of the Civil War. Almena’s father left Maine to server “in defense of Washington, DC”, stayed following the Civil War, fell in love and lived happily ever after! Almena visited Maine in 1910, including the wharf on PEAKS ISLAND; CAPE ELIZABETH and POND COVER; she took a schooner to SHORES ISLAND, viewed the coal fleet off FORT WILLIAMS PARK; and traveled to SOUTH PORTLAND; WILLARD BEACH; COLUMBIA; and JONESPORT. Almena left us a treasure trove of vintage photos presented in a unique way – all from 1910. 3,000 Years Of Love $10.23 3,000 YEARS OF LOVE”In this book I have brought together a private and a public story. Some may say that, as convention dictates, I should have kept the two properly apart. I can only answer that love in its actuality, rather than the pale mirroring usually allowed us, knows no such boundaries. And surely, if ever stories of love were and still are needed, it is in our world today.”So begins this remarkable story of the romance, return to Minoan Crete, and adventures in Greece, Italy, Germany, Africa, pioneering involvement in 20th and 21st century science and social action, and award-winning books of Riane Eisler and David Loye.We go behind the international best-seller The Chalice and the Blade, Sacred Pleasure, The Real Wealth of Nations and her many other books into the drama of the holocaust survivor and thinker who has been called “The New Renaissance Woman” and “One of the most important visionaries of our time.”We go behind the award-winning The Healing of a Nation, An Arrow Through Chaos, recovery of “the rest and best” of Darwin’s theory of evolution by a noted developer of the new field of evolutionary systems science, and Loye’s creative explosion of 20 new books at age 82.This dual-biography provides an unusually inspiring, humorous, and appealing guide to Eisler and Loye’s work as writers to globally advance the women’s, human rights, civil rights, progressive evolution, and partnership movements globally.”For the word was meant to sing and dance and inspire us to fulfill ourselves, not to lie flat and dead on the page,” Loye’s Prologue concludes. “And love was meant for the world, not only for oneself and one other alone. And as a link in the chain of being on and on into the future, laughter not sorrow must be our destiny.”This is the first book for the Benjamin Franklin Press publication of Loye’s three book Love Cycle, with 1001 Days of Love and 100 Days of Love to follow.Cover by Barbara Schaefer and John Mason. |

63 Defense For Youth Football $29.95 This book is the resource manual on coaching and running the 63 defense. It is is based on fundamental football stressing tackling, pursuit, and turnover creation. It uses a team concept that gets all eleven players involved in playing team defense. It uses pressure concepts that place a great deal of stress on the backfield and forces them into a game of reacting to your defense while playing inverted cover 2 behind the pressure front to better support run while playing sound pass coverage support. The main goal of this defense is not not allow the big play to happen since the vast majority of youth teams live and die by the sweep and the vertical pass the defense is geared to stop these two plays while still being sound on the interior. The book is simply written with very little “coach talk” yet gives you a thorough understanding of the techniques, schemes, and principles that make this defense sound and fun.”Coach Gregory’s defense is one of the most aggressive yet structurely sound defenses I have used. I love it! I love how easy it was to install! I love how easy it was to coach! I can’t wait to get my second season under my belt with this defense!”Chad Herring Head Midget Coach – Kentucky11-0 and first Championship appearance”Jack’s 63 is so simple to coach and the kids love it. I was very skeptical when I first heard how the scheme ran but after talking to him online and over the phone about how he runs this defense I installed it and had nothing but success. I recommend this defense to any youth coach interested in having a successful defense!”Mark Aherns Head Junior Bantaam Coach – Arkansas9-1 and League JB Champion”This defense served uswell.I love the spill and kill I love the spill and kill lots of pressure on the backfield.”‘Bonescoach South Texas dumcoach.com member”I ran it for the first time last year and probably botched a few things up a bit. From there, they went to Cannes, France, where Angela attended classes at l’École Spéciale des Arts et Techniques de la Mode. After the war, Angela’s father told her, “I want to give you a free country-America. You are going to love this country.” There she taught dress design and pattern making at D’Youville College in Buffalo and high-school French and German in Iroquois, New York. Angela’s first books, written at the request of her students and colleagues, were on patternmaking. After her friend, Mother Teresa, saw Angela’s book on children’s patterns she said, “Now that you dressed the children, you need to write a book to enrich the lives of young people to get all kinds of knowledge.” In response, Angela wrote this book, A Book of Idiomatic Phra |

Peter Steiner superbly evokes France, Washington, and international relations. It’s rewarding on every level.”- David Brooks, author of Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There”Best known for his subtle cartoons in The New Yorker, Peter Steiner has now done an unexpected, but expert, back-flip into the world of international intrigue with this, his first novel. A French Country Murder takes Louis Morgon, late of the CIA, deep into the French countryside in this melancholy thriller in which the compound humiliations of a powerful man lead to murder. Let me be the first to offer a well-deserved champagne toast to this book and its author, who seems to have mastered within its pages a whole new world. Salud!” – Jack Ziegler, cartoonist for The New Yorker”Peter Steiner’s rattling, sophisticated international thriller of lies, spies, cover-ups, malignant powers, betrayal, love, and detection comes wrapped in a headily exquisite mise-en-scene—the tastiest crepe that’s ever astonished you in the French countryside. I could stop till I’d sopped up that last drop of sauce!”- Diana McLellan, author of The Girls: Sappho Goes to Hollywood”I really enjoyed reading Peter Steiner’s book. I loved the feeling of the French countryside’s peace and quiet that permeated the story. Even the murder itself seemed a quiet event, a welcome change from the pyrotechnics of other murder mysteries. The characters are engaging and reader-friendly and the story unfolds at a perfect pace, the emotions and inner thoughts of the protagonist worked in seamlessly, adding depth to the events.”- Mick Stevens, cartoonist for The |

A Moment in Time: A Journey of Happiness, Love, Laughter, Grief, and Sorrow $14.95 Born in rural Eastern North Carolina of parents near poverty, this author has told a compelling story from the heart. It is easy to read. Having been born in the south, the author scatters bits of southern humor throughout which brings a smile to your face. Death brought on despair at an early age and drugs brought on challenges to an already confusing world. Concealing a deep dark secret was hard and challenging at times and caused the author to question his God. A failed relationship brought on many moments of sad reflection, but a new love brought about happiness and laughter. Hard work and determination gave birth to a successful career that delivered the author, as an adult, from a world of poverty. Through a process of discovering his inner self, his values, his motivation, his goals, and beliefs, his life changed. It is a story of encouragement that should be read by all who have an interest in the human journey.Jan: “This is a compelling and beautiful love story. It is an easy and fun read filled with insights not only into the climb out of poverty but the coming of age of a young man in the Sixties and beyond.”Loyd: “This author told a great story; I read it in one sitting.”Peggi: “I was struck by the author’s honesty and candid story. He ‘shows’ the story rather than simply telling it. That is, one can visualize the environment and even feel the tension.Don: “I couldn’t put the book down. Before I knew it, I had read A Moment in Time from cover to cover.” |

A Piece of Which Me Does She Want? $3.99 This book represents my contribution to the content of a (fake) reality TV show that I was forced to star in against my will. I wrote this because I was cast into the role of a monster and it was necessary to compell an image. I also wanted to introduce the concept of consequence to the viewers, and I wanted to see how far my stalker really would go, the answer is he will never stop, no matter what the scale of the harm he causes, because he has no conscience.”I am a man who concealed his multiple personalities for a life time, living in the shadow of sexual repression, and emotional angst. My life was then hijacked by a millionaire stalker, hiding cameras in my home, and invading my personal relationship, he proceeded to torture and exploit me, with the specific intent of destroying any chance I could ever have of happiness, by bribing doctors to induce sickness, police officers to destroy evidence, and even friends to cover the truth of the dreadful game. He then used internet publicity to offer bounties, to anyone who can anger, upset, or exploit me. Reduced to no more than a rat in a maze, the world becomes a prison, and critically exposed, I could no longer conceal my disorder, and was forced finally to battle not the torment of the outer demons, but the demons on the inside, the only route to true freedom, and the last hope of the falsest, truest love I ever had.” |

A Special Kind of Hero: Chris Burke’s Own Story $16.95 Chris Burke became one of America’s favorite personalities when he starred as “Corky” on the hit ABC television series Life Goes On. Not since Helen Keller has one person so thoroughly changed the way the world views people with disabilities. Twenty-five years earlier, when Chris was born with Down syndrome, doctors advised his parents to put him in an institution. Instead, they showered him with love and encouraged him to reach for his dreams. This is Chris’ story, and the story of his family’s love and determination. Here he tells what it’s really like to grow up with Down syndrome…how he pursued his seemingly impossible show business goals…and how he has dedicated his life to helping people with special needs, especially those with what he calls “Up syndrome.” Journalist JoBeth McDaniel first wrote about Chris in a Life magazine cover story. For this book, she spent many months with Chris and his family, and interviewed dozens of his coworkers and friends. Profoundly inspirational, A Special Kind of Hero is a triumphant story of courage and hope that proves Chris’ motto: “Obstacles are what you see when you take your eyes off your goal.” |

A Year’s Life $22.75 Purchase of this book includes free trial access to www.million-books.com where you can read more than a million books for free. This is an OCR edition with typos.Excerpt from book:THE DEPARTED. Not they alone are the departed, Who have laid them down to sleep In the grave narrow and lonely, Not for them only do I vigils keep, Not for them only am I heavy-hearted, Not for them only ! Many, many, there are many Who no more are with me here, As cherished, as beloved as any Whom I have seen upon the bier. I weep to think of those old faces, To see them in their grief or mirth; I weep, — for there are empty places Around my heart’s once crowded hearth; The cold ground doth not cover them, The grass hath not grown over them, Yet are they gone from me on earth; — 0 ! how more bitter is this weeping, Than for those lost ones who are sleeping Where sun will shine and flowers blow, Where gentle winds will whisper low, And the stars have them in their keeping ! Wherefore from me who loved you so, O! wherefore did ye go ? I have shed full many a tear, 1 have wrestled oft in prayer, — But ye do not come again ; How could any thing so dear, How could any thing so fair, Vanish like the summer rain ? No, no, it cannot be But ye are still with me ! And yet, O ! where art thou, Childhood, with sunny brow And floating hair ? Where art thou hiding now ? I have sought thee everywhere, All among the shrubs and flowers Of those garden-walks of ours, — Thou art not there ! When the shadow of Night’s wings Hath darkened all the Earth, I listen for thy gambolings Beside the cheerful hearth, — Thou art not there ! I listen to the far-off bell, I murmur o’er the little songs Which thou did’st love so well, Pleasant memories come in throngs And mine eyes are blurred with tears, But no glimpse of thee appears : Lonely am I in the Winter, lonely in the Spring, Summer and Harvest bring no trace of thee,— Oh ! whither, whither art thou wandering, |

Adventures in Bookbinding: Handcrafting Mixed-Media Books $24.99 Each project in this book combines bookbinding with a specific craft such as quilting, jewelry making, or polymer clay, and offer levels of expertise: basic, novice, and expert.  Illustrated step-by-step instructions and photographs demonstrate how to construct the cover pages, and a unique binding technique, easy enough for a beginner to master. Each project also features two other versions with the same binding geared to those with more or less experience.  The novice version is for those who have no knowledge of the craft and want shortcuts, but love the look.  For the quilter’s book, for example, vintage quilt pieces become the covers so all that’s needing in the binding.  Or if you’re interested in wool felting use an old sweater.  This offers great opportunities for upcycling. The expert version is for those who have a great deal of knowledge and proficiency of a certain craft – the master art quilter, for example.  For this version, an expert guest artist has created the cover and the author has created the binding.  This offers yet another creative opportunity – the collaborative project.  Since crafters often get involved with round-robins and other shared endeavors, this will show them yet another way to combine their skills. No other craft book offers the possibilities and challenges that Adventures in Bookbinding does.  Readers will return to it again and again to find inspiration and ideas.Jeannine Stein has been making books for more than fifteen years, exploring bindings, mediums, and techniques. In addition to teaching book-binding, she is an award-winning journalist, and she has written extensively about paper crafts-artists’ books, scrapbooking, rubber stamping, and letterpress. She is the author of Re-Bound: Creating Handmade Books with Recycled and Repurposed Materials, (Quarry Books, 2009).  |

American Political Bosses From Pennsylvania: Frank Palumbo $9.91 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Frank Palumbo was a restaurateur, local celebrity, humanitarian and power broker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is best known as the owner of Palumbos, an entertainment complex in South Philadelphia, Nostalgias Restaurant and the legendary Click Club. In the city, he is still widely known for his philanthropy: donating animals to the Philadelphia Zoo, helping build youth programs and funding parades. He has been called “a supporter of politicians, ordinary folk and animals.” Palumbo expanded a boarding house his grandfather, Antonio Palumbo, had started in 1884 into an entertainment complex. His restaurant and clubs served as an unofficial “political nerve center in Philadelphia.” In the 1940s and 1950s, Philadelphia was an important pop music center, with many bands and singers being made or broken in the city at Palumbo’s clubs. Palumbo became well known for philanthropy throughout South Philadelphia. Disturbed by an article critical of the area, singer Mario Lanza penned a response which identified Palumbo as an unsung hero of the city. Lanza lauded Palumbo for taking thousands of orphans to the circus, arranging parades for visiting celebrities and buying animals for the zoo. Palumbo was quiet and almost painfully shy, often hiding in his office during major functions and banquets, only briefly emerging to meet with the guests. The love of Palumbos life was his wife Kippee (? -2003). A former Hollywood and TV actress, Kippee was a philanthropic legend and, at Palumbos side, became “one of Philadelphias first ladies”. Palumbo was the subject of regular insinuation and speculation. An Inquirer Magazine article in 1975 suggested that his intense need for privacy and philanthropic zeal may have been used to cover an unexplained secret li… More: |

Ariadne’s Thread $4.5 It was supposed to be a simple burglary–but the ghosts had other ideas. Glaswegian single mother Ariadne McSween is not having a happy New Year. Instead of celebrating with family and friends in time-honoured tradition, she’s helping her scallywag brother and his even less-savoury friends burgle a mansion in the Scottish Highlands. And nothing is going right. First there’s the bad weather and car breakdowns. Then, instead of a quick, quiet robbery under cover of a noisy party, Addie finds herself flirting outrageously with the house’s owner, sexy concert pianist and accused murderer, John Maxwell. Worse, her violent and erratic accomplice, Shug, takes their hosts hostage. Another complication: The house turns out to be haunted, and not just by the ghost of eminent composer Christopher Maxwell. Two randy spirits drawn to the lust of living want to join the party–along with the vengeful shade of John’s murdered wife. Soon Addie becomes entangled in a host of mysteries, like why are Ariadne and her cohorts being paid to rob a house that holds nothing more valuable than dusty musical manuscripts? And most of all, how does she avoid falling in love with the chief victim of her crime? Warning: This book contains explicit and musical sex, adult language and swearing in Glaswegian. |

As I am By Patricia Neal $23.99 Throughout her triumphant career, Patricia Neal faced a series of devastating challenges and losses, sometimes privately, sometimes before an audience of millions. By age twenty-one, the self-confident, determined, Southern-bred actress had starred in a Broadway hit, won a Tony, was “the toast of New York” and was featured on a <I>Life</i> cover—only the first of many triumphs in a celebrity life. <P> “In this account, Neal writes candidly about her numerous love affairs, both transient and profound, such as a liaison with Gary Cooper and her twenty-five-year marriage to writer Roald Dahl. More arresting are the tragedies that beset her, including the deaths of two of her five children and, at age thirty-nine, a massive stroke suffered when she was at the peak of her career and carrying her fifth child. Her heroic struggle to regain her speech, mobility, and mental capacities adds another dimension to an already courageous human being” (<I>Publishers Weekly</i>). |

Attraction, Love And Relationships-The New Rules For Men And Women $10.95 There is now a massive industry in men teaching other men how to pick up women. This book explores what they do in detail , and ‘lifts the lid’ for everyone to see the principals behind their techniques. The positive spin off is that they have found a great number of ‘Attraction Switches’ , which are of equal value in maintaining and keeping a relationship at a red hot temperature. Enjoy this book as it takes you on a journey of discovery talking about many situations in relationships, many you may recognize, some happy, some sad, some just plain raunchy. This book will open your eyes to what we are and how we really work. ‘This this book is all about the qualities which separate the mere friend from the man who knocks on the door and makes her knees weak. Often during the course of a relationship a man may change from the latter to the former. I am going to explain the various pearls of wisdom gleaned from the work of men who set about studying the things which men can do to make women feel tingles of anticipation at the arrival of a text,or ring of the phone,or ultimately the knock on the door. I intend to blow the cover from the underground world of the Pick Up Artist (PUA),and to spread the wisdom these people have amassed so that everyone can use these principals with a view to spicing up a relationship, and enabling man and woman alike to feel completely fulfilled. .If both partners become more aware of the basic man/woman dynamics, the condition of the relationship can change pretty fast. Armed with this knowledge, the man who started off as a lover and has somehow become little more than ‘just a friend’ over the course of a relationship, can change his behavior and becomethe man she hungers for and lusts after constantly.’ |

From the Padres to Petco focuses on San Diego’s love affair with the Padres from the Pacific Coast League years at Lane Field (1936-57), Westgate Park (1958-67), San Diego Stadium (1968) and through 35 more exciting and often exasperating National League summers in Mission Valley (1969-2003). Bat For Lashes Songs $8.69 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Not illustrated. Excerpt: “Daniel” is the first single from Bat for Lashes’ second album Two Suns. The song was announced as the lead single from Two Suns in January 2009, then released as a digital download single on 1 March 2009, and as a 7″ vinyl single on 6 April 2009. The track was written by Natasha Khan and produced by David Kosten, as with all tracks on the album. Ira Wolf Tuton from Yeasayer provided the bass lines for the song and Khan did the rest of the instrumentation herself. Khan said in an interview with The Sun newspaper that “Daniel” is based on a fictional character that she fell in love with as a teenager. The single’s cover features Khan with an image of the character Daniel LaRusso, from the film The Karate Kid, painted on her back. A character much like LaRusso also features at the end of the music video which goes with the song. The B-side of the 7″ is a cover version of a 1980 single by The Cure. Digital Spy said that “Daniel” is “probably the most immediate thing Khan has recorded. Both synthy and mystical-sounding, and filled with poetic lyrics about “marble movie skies” and “the smell of cinders and rain,” it could almost pass for a lost Stevie Nicks track from the early eighties. Khan’s velvety voice, meanwhile, remains as enchanting as ever, so here’s hoping a few more people get to hear it.” NME said the song “relives ghostly memories of her first love and sounds like Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” filtered through the weeping circuits of a broken-hearted android.” Gigwise said “a poppy work of kosmik disko à la Empire of the Sun as a sexy working of electric violin and vocal overdubs are strapped to the beats and bones of a mythic love song.” Pitchfork Media likewise gave it a highly positive reception, awarding the singl… More: |

Be Loved for Who You Really Are: How the Differences between Men and Women Can Be Turned into the Source of the Very Best Romance You’ll Ever Know $18.99 Finding the Power in Your Differences Differences are the number-one reason why couples break up. But in Be Loved for Who You Really Are, the new book from bestselling husband-and-wife psychology team Judith Sherven, Ph.D. and James Sniechowski, Ph.D., they demonstrate how differences can be turned into a powerful source of lifelong love and romance. No matter how much two people may have in common, when they commit to a relationship they soon dis-cover all the ways they are different from one another. Failure comes when they struggle to get each other to fit into their expectations of how things “should” be, treating their differences as something to be fixed, in an effort to obtain an unrealistic fantasy relationship. Then, when reality doesn’t match the fantasy, the relationship falls apart. “In Be Loved . . . we celebrate those very real and unavoidable differences any two people run into when they are in a committed relationship,” says Sniechowski. “We go beyond gender differences. It is not about rules or about coming from different planets but about how two people can successfully co-create their own very personal and unique relationship.” Using case histories and examples from their own relationship, Judith & Jim show that, con-trary to common belief, differences should not be a problem. “Differences can be turned into opportunities for intimate and spiritual growth in a relationship,” stresses Sherven. “They can even be turned into a tremendous foundation for keeping love and romance alive.” The authors have helped close to 100,000 couples and singles by teaching them to turn the divisive wedge that drives most relationships apart into a powerful tool to take their relationship to a higher level. “By under-standing what real love requires, no one need ever fail again,” says Sniechowski. Be Loved for Who You Really Are outlines a natural and predictable path that love requires, called the arc of love. Within this arc are |
